SSN 2 Episode 12: Confidence

This is probably one of my favourite episodes ever recorded. Akeem is a budding star and is such a delight to talk to and such an inspiration. Get into it!
Akeem Hoyte-Charles is a Stand-up Comedian in Montreal Canada. Grew up in the small town of Chateauguay QC. Lived predominately with his Trinidadian Mother and his little sister. After dropping out of college twice and leaving a promising career in sales, at 25 Akeem decided to switch his focus from business to the arts. He hopped on stage at an open mic at a local comedy club in Montreal and has since gone international performing in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and Vancouver. Also has had roles on TV and Movies on networks such as CW, NETFLIX, HULU, etc

SSN 2 Episode 11: Balance

Happy 2024! The first episode of the new year! Abby kicks off the new year with a BIG episode and amazing guest, Carly Baker. Abby speaks to Carly about how she can balance it all, comedy, family, and being amazing. We find the secret in this episode. Make sure you have a listen! 
Carly Baker has been writing and performing comedy for over 19 years. Her self-deprivation style is both sweet and raw, always striving to balance honesty with entertainment. She started her career in 2005 at the legendary Houston Laff Stop, she then relocated to Scotland to become a regular at Comedy Clubs there.
She has performed at festivals around the globe. After that she lived in Germany and Amsterdam, producing and performing all over Europe. She has called Montreal home since 2021 where you can find her as a regular MC and performer at The Comedy Nest and Yuk Yuk’s Ottawa and performing for the prestigious Just For Laughs Festival. In 2022 she recorded for the JFL Originals comedy album Heavy Petting Zoo (available on Sirius XM).

SSN 2 Episode 10: Shy Girl

Join Abby as she talks to Raajiee Chelliah! They talk about being shy as children and how it has impacted their lives. Of course, they talk about comedy. Raajiee is a superstar. It's a good one, GET INTO IT!
Raajiee has been part of the Montreal comedy scene since 2021. She hit the ground running and has been a scene favourite pretty much since the beginning. She gets real on stage about life as a data analyst, dating and growing up in an Indian immigrant household. Her talent has not gone unnoticed. In her first year in comedy, she was part of the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival and recorded for JFL originals. Since then she’s performed in France, toured Canada performing and was named the Montreal Gazette’s comedians to watch.

SSN 2 Episode 9: Boom Boom

Join Abby as she talks to the accomplished James Mancini about work ethic, the grind and of course comedy. James is a sweetie and is on the up and up in the comedy scene. Enjoy this delightful episode
James’s career started in athletics with a devotion to amateur wrestling. He won 7 Canadian National titles as well as represented Canada at many international Events notably winning a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He then made the transition to professional MMA. Throughout his life, he has participated in many different media roles;  reality shows, radio shows, short films, special skills movie roles, podcasts, TV appearances, sports commentating, and event host. He is currently the host of my YouTube show: The Boom Boom Show, where he does interviews and comments on different topics such as combat sports and pop culture. In Season 2 of the show, he took to the streets to have funny interactions with Montreal’s nightlife community. Last, but not least he is a stand-up comedian, making his waves in the Montreal scene.

SSN 2 Episode 8: Pretentious

Join Abby as she talks to Raquel Maestre about being bad at music but GREAT at comedy. Raquel is a delight to talk to and has a very fun comedy show called A Very Pretentious Comedy Show. I see big things coming from the talent that is Raquel. Make sure you follow her journey. 
Raquel is originally from Spain. In the past few years, she has made such an impact on the Montreal comedy scene, especially in the Queer comedy scene with her deadpan commentary on life as a transgender immigrant and the general hilariousness of these times of impending doom. She has been featured at Zoofest OFF-JFL, Ladyfest, Giggle Fest and Pervers/Cite. She has performed comedy in 4 different languages and is the Producer and Host of A Very Pretentious Comedy Show and Co-producer of Poly Mic.

Andrew Jamieson is a Montreal-based multidisciplinary artist specializing in immersive storytelling. He is also the Creative Director of Forget The Box, and a classically trained Antagonist. Andrew and I first crossed paths because of a simple social media post. Andrew was looking for writers/contributors for Forget the Box a Montreal-based platform focused on Highlighting the Montreal Arts scene. And since I like to pretend that I am a writer I slide into his DMs. I was blown away by his enthusiasm and passion for the arts.

Sara Quinn is a comedian, writer, and doctor of social psychology. Performing stand-up across North America, she was named a Young Gun of Comedy by the Comedy Nest (Montreal, QC) and was selected to be a part of the World Famous Comedy Store's (Los Angeles, CA) elite development system. She has been a featured performer in Off-JFL/Zoofest, Laval Laughs festival, Montreal Sketchfest, the Montreal Fringe Festival, Montreal Comiccon, .. the list goes on. Sara was the person who hosted the first open mic Abby ever performed on and since then Abby has had a deep admiration for Sara's profound joke-writing skills.

Joanna is a budding comedian who performed her first set at the Comedy Nest in March 2022. She aspires to someday become a showrunner and has completed classes with the PACK Theatre, Second City, and UCB. She has worked alongside notable comedian Rachid Badouri, completed two pilot scripts, and was featured in Zoofest in her first year of comedy! She loves to workshop with comedians and edit jokes all while crafting her own material. A child of conservative, religious refugees, Joanna has a unique outlook on life and is determined to use her upbringing to connect with people through laughter!

Sarah is a self-taught comedian who has successfully found a name for herself internationally and locally. She has been an active member of the Montreal comedy community for over a year and a half, making her name known through multiple shows including hosting with Montreal festivals ‘Sketchfest’ and ‘Gigglefest’. You can see her featured in the Montreal Guardian, high at Marche Jean Talon, and on her own TikTok account with her cat, Greg. Sarah is constantly searching for a way to continue being authentically herself and someone else entirely.
